It doesn't sound like much of a design secret, does it? But take a good look around your competitor's web sites. Chances are, you'll find one or more of the following web design problems...
- More than one navigation system
- Different navigation systems on different pages
- A navigation item that appears in different places on different pages
- No obvious way to get back to the homepage
- Defacto standards missing
- Can't add more navigation options without a redesign (good for the web designer, not so good for you)

- Limit yourself to a single navigation system
- Use a drop-down menu system
- Place it in the same place on every page
- Don't use buttons (see above)
- Have the menu system's content incorporated into your CMS
- Get a content management system that automatically updates the navigation system
