Does article marketing really work? In short, yes.
I've just been looking at my author stats with a well-known article site, as I was curious about whether or not one of my articles outperformed the others (yes, as it happens).
What was interesting to me about the stats, was the results I was getting from an article that is now well over a year old. Despite its age, it's still being read by an average of 1 person every day. This benefits me in 2 ways...
My site stats show I'm getting visits from this article repository (I have 14 articles with them as I write this). Each time this site publishes one of my articles, it generates interest in what I do and brings people to my site. Not just once, but over and over again.
In other words, an hour I invested back in December 2007 has benefited me 427 times so far. It will continue to do so for years.
I also happen to know each article published out there earns my site a little extra credibility in the eyes of the major search engines. As a general rule of thumb, if the site your article is published on is liked by a search engine, the link in the article is old and contains your main key word, it's probably helping your ranking.
In other words, links back to your site are like fine wines. They tend to get better with age.
Please note, I'm not talking about writing any old rubbish. If you want article marketing to work for you, a long-term view is needed. You can't expect this to work overnight. Write wholly original articles, get them published, and continue doing it on a regular basis.
And in time, you'll find your investment has paid off too.
